It changes settings and protagonists, adds craft and vehicles, abandoned escort missions and saves on costs. In spite of all these changes, however, the core gameplay always stays intact: grab anything useful to kill and weaken the zombie droves with a variety of terrible and terrible ways. Dead Rising 4 maintains this shallow yet entertaining tradition of chaos by adapting ideas from each previous iteration.

Photojournalist Frank West, finally returning as a playable protagonist. We also visited Willamette, Colorado, which has been rebuilt since the original outbreak years before. Tragically, once again the pandemic center of the undead, only now citizens are expected to be inoculated. This raises many questions for Frank and his protege Vick Chu, both of whom are struggling to find the truth in their own way.

Regardless of what you choose to play, Dead Rising 4 technology survives well for the most part. I see some zombies trapped in objects with only their arms protruding from, say, a gigantic rock, but the framerate never feels slowed down, which is a feat considering how zombies can fill the screen at once.
